A Swanky Market for the Heart of Albuquerque

A ground floor transformation turns a 1990s office complex into Uptown Albuquerque’s newest destination — a design-forward food hall where all-day eats, cocktails, and a central park connect community and culture in the heart of the city.

Park Square Market is a ground-up reinvention of two ground-floor spaces in a 1990 SOM-designed office tower complex in Uptown Albuquerque. United by a grove-like public park, the reimagined halls now form the heart of a 20,000-square-foot food and cocktail destination — Albuquerque’s newest space for gathering, grazing, and unwinding from morning to night.

Maximalist led the interior design, branding, and signage across both halls and the connecting park, fully transforming the original interiors through a hospitality-first lens. The concept plays on “Park” and “Square” — the soft, organic energy of nature contrasted with the grid and geometry of the building’s modernist architecture. The rhythm of the windows, the clean corners, the hard lines — all brought into dialogue with verdant hues, rich textures, and ambient light. It’s a space that brings the outdoors in, and life outside back into the frame.

The South Hall features a light, airy palette grounded in white tile, brass fixtures, and crisp black accents. A signature dual-height banquette creates both bar and dining seating, while trees break up the layout and encourage flow and flexibility. At its center is Walk in the Park — a greenhouse-inspired cocktail bar beneath a glowing globe canopy, finished in corrugated glass, lush greenery, and verde marble. While the hall lacks a kitchen hood, the vendor program is curated around lighter fare — smoothies, salads, snacks — each stall marked by bespoke metal overhang signage.

The North Hall flips the palette, leaning into black surfaces, deeper tones, and moodier energy. With a full kitchen and hot food offerings like pizza and burgers, it’s anchored by Workhorse — a casual tap-driven bar named in nod to the building’s professional roots. Oversized rope lighting forms a sculptural chandelier above the U-shaped bar, serving cocktails, wine, and beer on tap in a bold, social space with high ceilings and industrial charm.

Above, a mezzanine lounge pulls guests into the tree canopy — complete with custom wallpaper, darker finishes, and plush seating suited for groups, solo work, or private events. A moody sky-toned coffee bar ties the two halls together, featuring harlequin black and brown tile, stained wood walls in cloudy blue, and soft seating along sunlit windows. Even the restrooms carry the design story, with whimsical floral and bird sconces and striped tile in sage, sky blue, and white.

Across every touchpoint, Park Square Market is thoughtful, flexible, and immersive. Sophisticated but accessible. Fresh, functional, and full of story. This isn’t just a food hall — it’s a place to meet, return, and make your own.
